Wind and Thunderstorm Warnings in the UK

Wind and thunderstorm warnings have been issued by the Met Office, as the UK braces itself for unseasonably strong winds and heavy rain. The warnings cover large parts of central England and Wales, with gusts of up to 60mph expected. The strongest winds will be felt in southern parts of England, particularly along the south coast. Alongside the wind warnings, a yellow thunderstorm warning is also in place for parts of England and Wales. Slow-moving thunderstorms could lead to heavy rainfall accumulations, with some areas experiencing up to 40mm of rain in a two to three-hour period. The bad weather is expected to cause challenging driving conditions, with drivers being urged to slow down and avoid patches of standing water. The Met Office has stated that more settled weather may arrive in the second half of August, but the risk of thundery showers will remain.

Travel Disruptions and Previous Weather Conditions
